Bath, England - Jane Austen AirBnB - August 2024

Part of the impetus for us going to Bath came when I saw that you could rent an AirBnB in the bottom floor of Jane Austen's former home in Bath at 4 Sydney Place. The two nights we stayed there were sort of our "splurge" residence at around $250/night (we were trying to find hotels/stays on the cheap to allow for more daytime activities).

The living room of the current AirBnB was formerly the kichen, and the back wall has the old hearth and cooking fireplaces. The main bedroom (where I stayed) was the former butler's pantry. A stayed in the back "map" bedroom, which I believe was the stairwell between floors. It was legitimately one of the coolest experiences I've ever had, and super-humbling, a really rare and awesome experience. I'm so glad I got to share it with my daughter. I can't recommend the apartment enough - it's super-comfortable, well-equipped, and right across the street from the Sydney Gardens and Holbourne Museum. The host was incredibly cordial and kind.

Here are some photos.

A stone building with a white door, brick arch, and two windows with flower boxes. Iron railings line the path. Door number 4 for 4 Sydney Place is visible.
The exterior of 4 Sydney Place. We were actually down a little side stairwell off to the left, and enter just underneath this main entry.

Tan stone building with arched door labeled "4." Black iron fence and greenery below. Person with backpack on right, partially visible.
My arm is over there off to the right, but the entrance can be seen down to the right of that middle window.

Plaque reads "Here lived Jane Austen, 1801-1806" on a brick wall. Black iron fence in foreground, number "4" beside plaque.

A bright blue and white galley kitchen is the entry point to Jane Austen's former home at 4 Sydney Place.
This galley kitchen is the entrance to the apartment. I'm not sure if it was part of Jane's original home.

Cozy living room with a curly-haired person lounging on a blue sofa, surrounded by colorful pillows. Art-filled walls and a rustic fireplace.
A is just hanging out in Jane Austen's former kitchen. A totally normal sentence to say.

Cozy living room with blue couch, vintage decor, framed art, and Chausson logo above TV on red wall. Books and bottles on shelves.
The other half of the former kitchen/current living room.

Cozy room with eclectic decor; books and art line shelves above a stone mantle. Vintage clock, colorful pillows, and patterned armchair add charm.
Those hearths housed the family's cooking fireplaces.

A slightly different angle.

Cozy living room with a patterned armchair, blue sofa, and wooden coffee table. TV, books on shelves; "Max's Upstairs" sign on wall.
The whitewashed cupboards were really pretty.

Cozy room with colorful armchair, red lamp, and wooden mantel. Art, books, and a clock adorn the walls. Warm, inviting atmosphere.
Last view of the living room/former kitchen.

Cozy bedroom with floral wallpaper, fireplace, TV, and a bed with a yellow throw. Soft daylight from the window creates a warm ambiance.
The main bedroom is the former butler's pantry. The bed was super-comfortable!

A small bedroom with maps covering the walls is bright and airy.
A slept in this map room. Based off of the placement in the house and the size, I think it must have been a stairwell!

My name is Angie.  I find aesthetically "decent" and normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
