Chicago - April and June 2024

J and I took a trip to Chicago in April as a belated birthday trip for the two of us, and liked it so much that we went back in June with A and C. It had been since high school since I've been to Chicago (outside of O'Hare), and the Art Institute was easily my favorite part. I also adore the Bean, which was under construction when we went in April - the good part of that was that I could take cameras through the tall fence.

Here are some photos of the trips!

The Home Alone house
The McAllister residence. The house to the left of it was NOT the nice old murder guy's house, but was instead super-modern.

Half a Bean.

Steel sculpture
I don't know if this thing has a name, but it's the roof of the stage in Millennium Park.

The Art Deco architecture in Chicago is so cool.

I achieved this photo by jamming my camera between two slots of a really janky fence.

I love the textures and lines of Chicago's buildings downtown. They're so gorgeous.

My family
The next time we visited Chicago, the kids came with us. We got really lucky to get to stop by and spend most of Friday with Grandpa in the Quad Cities.

We visited the Griffin Museum of Science & Industry. I'm shown here in my Blue Period.

Tiffany's visit
I don't know what's going on with my face here, but this woman has been my personal shopper twice now at Tiffany's. She gave me her card so I can order stuff directly.

Edward Hopper's Nighthawks
Overall, C was a giant pill at the Art Institute (which is my and Alice's happy place). One of the few times he was engaged was while looking at Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks," as shown here.

A loved pointillism almost as much as I do - shown here pointing at Georges Seurat's "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte."

A family in crowns at Medieval Times.
J was positive that the kids would enjoy Medieval Times, particularly C$. He was very, very right - there was a lot of bloodlust in C's cheers. Thank goodness for VIP passes/seats.
