Edinburgh, Scotland - Royal Yacht Brittania - August 2024

So, I love The Crown. I have no shame about this, and I'm not some crazy royalist - I just find it fascinating, and think that Queen Elizabeth was a remarkable figure in the face of a lot of adversity. One of my favorite episodes deals with her commission of the Royal Yacht Brittania, and A watched the episode about its decommission with me. One of the things I really wanted to do when we were in Scotland was to visit the decommissioned yacht now docked in Leath. A was entirely on board.

Below are several photos - some will have context, some won't.

Close-up of a black ship's bow in a dock, with regal emblems. White structures and cables surround, creating a nautical ambiance.

A shiny bell marked "H.M. Yacht Britannia 1953" below a royal coat of arms on a wall. Surroundings include windows and wooden panel.
Hail (Royal Yacht) Brittania!

Child wearing glasses looks through a white telescope on a ship, with a large cruise ship in the blurred background. Overcast sky.
Maybe my favorite part of this photo is A wearing a "Halloweentown" hoodie.

Person in white jacket stands on a ship deck, overlooking water and cranes in the distance. Overcast sky, red lifebuoy on deck railing.
A overlooking Leath.

Antique wall clock and green exit sign with running figure on a light blue industrial wall. Text reads "W.T. Condition." Calm mood.
Just as you can see on The Crown, all of the clocks were stopped at 3:01, the moment in which the boat was officially decommissioned.

Young person in a captain's hat sits in a boat's control room, smiling. Background shows people outside near water. Soft blue and wood tones.
Ahoy, Captain!

Navy hat, vintage radio, and headset on a wooden table in a ship's cabin. A camera is nearby.
The help radio is nested in the captain's cabin? Is it called a captain's cabin? I am certain it's not - whatever you call a yacht's drivers seat.

I decided to go all-in on enjoying the officer's bar.

The banquet table of the dining room on the HMS Royal Yacht Brittania
This ginormous banquet table is in the dining room. All along the walls are relics and gifts from foreign dignitaries, previous voyages, etc.

My name is Angie.  I find aesthetically "decent" and normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
