**This post was actually written in October of 2024, but I'm back-dating it for continuity.
The 2022 Iowa State Fair was the second time I'd entered the Photography Salon. In my second year, I was lucky enough to have two photos accepted, as well as an award.
This was my first time receiving an award. I explained this a little bit better in my 2024 post about the Photography Salon, but you receive this card about 4-6 weeks prior to the fair, so you have to just wait and see what photos were accepted and what award(s) were received until the first day of the Fair (at the earliest). It was a long few weeks!
The award was an Honorable Mention in Sports, received for this photo of a random skateboarder at the skate park in Ames:
The other photograph I had accepted was this one of C, taken with him jamming his head inside the neck of his sweater while I was trying to take photos of A. Sometimes a child acting like a goofball elicits an interesting photo - that is sort of C's specialty, in fact:
As usual, I had submitted four photos, so obviously there were two that were not accepted. The also-rans. The never-wases. The losers. The turds.
Here is the first failure of 2022:
The other failure was in the Black-and-White People category:
I feel like I learned a lot this year on what is desired and what isn't at the Photography Salon.
