Iowa State Fair Photography Salon - 2023

Updated: Oct 20, 2024

I figure that I should go backwards and work on adding results of all of the photography competitions I've entered. So even though I'm writing this in October of 2024, I'm going to backdate these to try and make it look linear. Hopefully that makes sense when reading? IDK.

Anyway - on to the photos. I was really lucky this year to have three selected!

Three of four photos admitted to 2023 Iowa State Fair Photography Salon.
Three of four photos admitted, and an award. Hooray!

This was my third year entering the salon, so I was pretty excited! It's been a number of years since anyone has had all four photos admitted, and three is not super-common.

My award was an Honorable Mention in the Sports category for the second year in a row. I'd originally planned to submit this in Black-and-White People, but the amazing staff working during submissions recommended I pivot:

C's eyes just do that. I didn't have to do much editing other than some highlights. Received an Honorable Mention.

It still feels a little un-sportsy, but I'm not mad at an honorable mention.

The theme for the year was Sunrise, Sunset. I submitted this photo from London that I'd taken on a trip in 2022:

London Eyes are watching you, they see your every move...

The last entry I had admitted in 2023 was an entry into the USA Places & Landscapes; I took this photo in Pismo Beach, CA, at our hotel. There were so many birds and SO MUCH BIRD POOP:

Again, not a ton of editing required; it was really misty and foggy because it was 105 degrees just outside of the Pismo area, but inside the valley it dropped about 30 degrees.

The entry that I submitted that didn't make it was a panorama. That really isn't my category, apparently:

First time entering the Panoramic category - swing and a miss.

My name is Angie.  I find normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
