London, England - Changing of the Guard - August 2024

The last time I'd gone to London, the queen had passed away and there was no Changing of the Guard that day. I really wanted to see it, and A was amenable. I'd read that the crowds got bananas, and I'd also read that the best vantage place from which to watch it is on top of the Victoria Memorial, so I figured we should go early. While I think that was a solid idea, over two hours early may have been a little overzealous, as we sat there alone for a really, really long time. But we had great position when it finally started!

The guard only changes at Buckingham Palace on certain days. The day where it worked best for us was Sunday, so we woke up early and walked the few blocks to hang out for a couple hours. Here are a very few of the photos from the day.

Woman with curly hair sits smiling in front of Buckingham Palace. Cloudy sky, statue nearby, and people walking in the background.

Part of the Guard comes up this lane to relieve those on duty.

It was like this all around the traffic circle, as well as all down the lane I described above. It was a ton of people!

I love black and white so much, but I think maybe color is needed for Changing of the Guard for context? Not sure.

My name is Angie.  I find normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
