Portland Girls' Trip - June 2023

For her birthday trip when she became a teenager, A and I went to Portland, Oregon. We went because she knew she'd love how goofy it was, there was a Yeah Yeah Yeahs concert for which we got tickets, and we also visited some of J's family who lives out there. It was an incredible time!

I didn't take my good camera, so here are some phone photos from the trip. They're the most Portland-y photos I took from the trip.

Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon
Powell's Books is like the mothership of Portland - a whole city block of books! It's the biggest independent bookstore in the world.

Rare Book Room - Powell's, Portland
The Rare Book Room on the top floor of Powell's is amazing - rare, autographed, incredible books. Antiques, new, rare editions. I could get lost for hours.

Autographed Robert Frost book for $4000
Robert Frost was one of the great American male poets - apparently you can put a price on a brush with greatness.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs concert chaos
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs concert was as awesome as it was subtle.

Flying eyeballs at the Yeah Yeah Yeahs concert
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' props were on-point.

A fish car in Portland.
This car had Big Portland Vibes.

Statue at Pioneer Square in Portland
This statue and the Fried Egg I'm In Love food truck are my two favorite parts of Pioneer Square - and it has an awesome sculpture that puffs out air and predicts the weather, so that's saying a lot.

Portland manhole covers
The Rose City even has pretty manhole covers!

The Portlandia statue in Portland
Portlandia statue - the show was named after this, not the other way around.

Some kind of vampire deer?
I don't want to meet this guy out at night. Paxton Gate is full of taxidermy and is my favorite spot in Portland.

Two-headed calf at Paxton Gate in Portland
Paxton Gate is the dream of maximalists and those who love oddities alike.

A bison sniffing A's hand
A and I love Paxton Gate so much that we also went to the one across town.

Powell Books' display
We also made sure to go back to Powell's. I think we went there three times in three days. This book display just sums it up.

A in the midst of book heaven at Powell's
A and I were in heaven. Cold drinks, so many books, and air conditioning.

Pine Street Biscuits
I can't describe how delicious Pine Street Biscuits is. It's so good. A got the biscuits and gravy, and I just got.a biscuit with sides of honey and jam.

Krampus and my baby girl at the Peculiarium
My baby girl cuddling with Krampus at the Peculiarium

Hanging on for dear life at the Peculiarium
