Rome - May 2019

I absolutely love traveling, so I'm going to go back and highlight some of my favorite travel photos from various trips.

My mom was in Italy on a trip for work in 2019. She was based out of Rome, so while she was busy during the day, I got the chance to wander around the city by myself. I got to go up the Holy Stairs on my knees during the time that they were uncovered for the first time in 300 years, which was an incredibly special experience (even to me as a non-Catholic). I also got to tour the Necropolis under the Vatican for the second year in a row (where our tour group assumed I was married to the Australian man with whom I made friends while awaiting the tour). I visited Trastevere to go back to Polvere di Tempo, got fruit and ciambella at Campo de Fiori, went to see Michelangelo statues at the Vatican and San Pietro in Vincoli (right over by the Colosseum), and more. We went to Venice later in the trip, but here are some photos from Rome.

Pantings hand on the wall of Galleria Corsini in Rome.
Galleria Corsini in Trastevere is incredible - home to a Caravaggio, Bernini staircases, and several pieces by Van Dyck, Rubens, and more. Inexpensive, not busy, and bursting with art. They had a Mapplethorpe exhibit while I was there.

The Tevere River, with the Vatican in the background.

The grand entry to Basilica of Saint John Lateran
Basilica of Saint John Lateran, just near the Holy Stairs - the table at the altar is said to be the one from The Last Supper.

Walking to Campo de Fiori. I just noticed there is a bag with a bouquet of flowers hanging about ten feet up the wall to the right?! I have no answers.

I've taken photos of this wall both times I went to Trastevere. Super-trippy, and I assume that door opens into some weird hellish inner-verse.

Campo de Fiori. I didn't let myself get within about eight feet of all of those glass bottles, as I am a human wrecking ball. But it's all so vibrant.

I can't find my photos from the trip to Rome the year before; I think they're on a laptop that died or something before I started doing better backups. But I kept my itineraries in case we can ever go back - it's a wonderful city.
